Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria Declares Indefinite Strike Over Unmet Demands

Abuja, Nigeria – May 30, 2025

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Federal High Court Chapter, has announced an indefinite strike action scheduled to begin on Monday, June 2, 2025. This decision, officially communicated in a notice dated May 30, follows a breakdown in negotiations with the Federal Government over key welfare demands.

According to the notice signed by the Public Relations Officer, Gideon A. Maku, the union’s leadership reached the decision after unsuccessful talks with the Minister of Labour and Employment regarding the implementation of the new minimum wage, a proposed 25% and 35% salary increment, and a wage award for judiciary staff.

“The Union decision to embark on strike was informed by the failure of the Federal Government to implement the new minimum wage, 25/35% salary increment and the wage award for the Judiciary Staff,” the notice read in part.

JUSUN has therefore directed all its members nationwide to stay at home until further notice, signaling a likely disruption in judicial activities across the country.

The notice was endorsed by key union officers, including Chairman Samuel Ikpatt, Assistant Secretary Hanatu Peters, and Treasurer Ngozika Ike.

As of press time, the Federal Government has yet to issue a response to the strike announcement.
