The Edo State Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, emphasizing that government derives its legitimacy from the people and must ensure stakeholder involvement in policy formulation and implementation.
The Governor made this known at a stakeholder sensitization workshop themed “Exposing the Policy Thrust of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s Administration,” organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications in collaboration with the Edo State Government. Represented by the Head of Service, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa Esq., he underscored the importance of public awareness in shaping government objectives and developmental plans.
Government’s Vision and Policy Thrust
Speaking at the event, Sen. Okpebholo emphasized that governance must be transparent, and citizens should be well-informed about government policies, programs, and projects.
> “The people must know what the government is doing, the trajectory it is taking, and the direction it is heading. This way, they can buy into it and, where necessary, contribute to driving government policies further,” he stated.
Dr. Okungbowa commended the Governor for his numerous achievements within three months in office. He also praised the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Paul Ohonbamu, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Desmond Agbama, and the dedicated staff of the ministry for organizing the timely event.
Highlighting the Governor’s leadership style, the HOS remarked:
> “The Governor is an action-driven leader. Over the last three months, we have witnessed several developmental projects. He speaks less but does more. Those of us in the civil and public service are particularly excited to have him as Governor.”
Introducing the SHINE Project
In his welcome address, Hon. Ohonbamu described Sen. Okpebholo’s policy thrust as people-centric. He unveiled the SHINE project, an acronym for Security, Healthcare, Infrastructure, Natural Resources (including agriculture and food security), and Education. The initiative aims to improve the welfare of Edo State citizens.
> “We stand at the threshold of history, reviewing the 100-day policy thrust of an uncommon Governor. The Governor has achieved a lot within this short period. However, it is not enough for us to discuss among ourselves—we must inform the people about the administration’s direction.”
Hon. Ohonbamu further noted that Governor Okpebholo is committed to governance, not looting, and is determined to steer Edo State on an irreversible path of progress.
