Edo State Government has suspended Felix Osemwengie Isere, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Oil and Gas, following allegations of unauthorised fundraising using the state’s name. The decision comes ahead of the scheduled Oil and Gas Summit set to take place in Benin City on Thursday, August 07, 2025.
In an official statement issued on Monday, July 29, the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, confirmed that His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo, had ordered the suspension of Mr Isere due to his involvement in activities not authorised by the government. The statement also revealed that the adviser has been instructed to refund all monies received from donors under the guise of the summit.
The government further advised the public and prospective donors to cease dealings with Mr Isere, emphasising that the summit’s organiser has been suspended and that the event has been effectively halted until further notice.
The development raises questions over the organisation of the oil and gas event, with officials emphasising commitment to transparency and proper governance. No further details on the matter have been disclosed at this stage.
