The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the constitution of an Inter-Ministerial Committee to oversee the planning and coordination of a state burial for the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), the committee is to be chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, CON. The committee is mandated to ensure that the late former President is accorded a befitting national burial in line with his status as a former Head of State.
Members of the committee include the Honourable Ministers of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy; Budget and Economic Planning; Defence; Information and National Orientation; Works; Interior; Federal Capital Territory (FCT); Housing and Urban Development; and Art, Culture and Creative Economy. Also on the committee are the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, the National Security Adviser, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Chief of Defence Staff.

The statement added that the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, will serve as the Secretariat to the committee.
In further honour of the late President, President Tinubu has directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to open condolence registers at the entrances of their respective offices to enable members of the public to pay their respects. A central condolence register will also be opened at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja for the diplomatic community and the general public.
