Benin City – The Edo State Government, through its regulatory agency in charge of building development and urban planning, has commenced a three-day sensitization rally across major roads in the state capital to reinforce its commitment to safe building practices and regulatory compliance.
The rally, which began on Monday, May 19, serves as a public reminder of the government’s dedication to enforcing building codes, specifications, and infrastructure coordination. The campaign, which kicked off from Benin-Sapele Road, extended through key areas in the state capital, aiming to engage a broad section of the public and promote adherence to planning regulations.
As part of the campaign, enforcement actions were carried out on structures found to be erected outside designated zones and without the required building permits.
Managing Director of the agency, Mr. Igabali Darlington, stated that the sensitization effort was necessary to curb the growing disregard for approved building procedures. He emphasized the agency’s resolve to ensure that all construction activities in Edo State comply with established guidelines for safety and orderly development.
“This rally is not just about enforcement; it’s about education and prevention. We want to ensure that residents and developers understand the importance of obtaining the necessary approvals before commencing construction,” Mr. Darlington said.
The campaign is expected to continue across various parts of the city over the next two days.
