President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently holding a high-level security meeting with the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting, which reportedly took place at the President’s request, began around 3 p.m. when the security chiefs arrived at the State House and proceeded into a closed-door session with the President.
This is President Tinubu’s first security meeting since his return from a two-week trip to France and the United Kingdom on Monday. His prolonged absence had drawn criticism from opposition figures, who cited rising insecurity and urged him to return and address the crisis.
Although it is unclear whether other top security officials are also participating, the urgency of the meeting underscores the worsening security situation in parts of the country.
Over the past three weeks, more than 100 people have reportedly been killed in renewed attacks by unidentified gunmen in Plateau and Benue States. The surge in violence has raised concerns about the effectiveness of current security strategies.
Today’s meeting is believed to focus on reviewing the nation’s security architecture and developing new strategies to combat the escalating violence in the Middle Belt and other troubled regions.
