Tinubu Assures Nigerians of Economic Recovery, Stability at 65th Independence Anniversary

Abuja, October 1, 2025 – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has assured Nigerians that the nation has turned the corner toward recovery, stability, and prosperity, following years of economic turbulence and political challenges.

In his national broadcast to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, the President paid tribute to the country’s founding fathers for their sacrifices and vision, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to completing the “unfinished nation-building business.”

Tinubu, delivering his third independence anniversary address since assuming office on May 29, 2023, reflected on the nation’s journey since 1960, noting Nigeria’s progress in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic diversification.

The President highlighted reforms undertaken by his administration, including the removal of fuel subsidies, foreign exchange reforms, and increased investment in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. He said these tough decisions were necessary to “reset the country for sustainable growth.”

According to him, the reforms are yielding results, with Nigeria recording a 4.23% GDP growth in Q2 2025, a drop in inflation to 20.12% in August, and improved foreign reserves standing at $42.03 billion, the highest since 2019. He also listed significant gains in non-oil revenue, trade surpluses, oil production, and social investment programmes.

On national security, Tinubu commended the armed forces for their sacrifices, noting that peace has returned to several communities previously affected by terrorism and banditry.

Addressing Nigerian youths, the President reaffirmed his administration’s support through student loan schemes, consumer credit facilities, and creative industry funding. He urged young people to “dream big, innovate, and conquer new territories” in technology, sports, and the arts.

While acknowledging the biting effects of inflation and high cost of living, Tinubu stressed that the painful reforms were unavoidable to prevent economic collapse. He assured Nigerians that resources saved are being channelled into education, electricity, food security, and social programmes.

“As we celebrate 65 years of Independence, my message is one of hope and a call to action. Let us be a nation of producers, not just consumers. Let us patronise Made-in-Nigeria goods. I say Nigeria first,” the President declared.

Tinubu ended his address with a message of optimism: “With Almighty God on our side, I can assure you that the dawn of a new, prosperous, self-reliant Nigeria is here.”

He wished Nigerians a happy 65th Independence Anniversary, praying for continued peace and progress for the nation.
