SWAN COMMENDS EBS, ALENKHE FOR HISTORIC LIVE BROADCAST OF EDO QUEENS’ WAFU-B FINAL
September 7, 2026
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Edo State Chapter, warmly commends the Management and staff of the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS), led by the Acting Managing Director, Dr. Festus Alenkhe, for the station’s outstanding and historic live broadcast of the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B Final between Edo Queens and Ampem Darkoa FC of Ghana in Burkina Faso on Saturday.
We consider the feat a remarkable demonstration of professional excellence, technological ingenuity and an unwavering commitment to the promotion of sports in Edo State
At a time when millions of football-loving Nigerians were eager to witness the historic continental encounter, EBS rose magnificently to the occasion as the only television station in Nigeria to beam the decisive encounter live, thereby placing the state at the centre of national and continental spotlight.
SWAN Edo particularly salutes Dr. Festus Alenkhe, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, whose exceptional leadership, uncommon administrative acumen, visionary disposition and transformational prowess have continued to reposition EBS within his relatively short tenure as Acting Managing Director.
His professional capacity has inspired innovation, mobilise human resources and pursue excellence and has undoubtedly injected renewed vitality, professionalism and competitiveness into the station.
Dr. Alenkhe’s stewardship represents a compelling testament to what purposeful leadership, intellectual capacity and professional competence can achieve within a remarkably short period of time.
His ingenuity in ensuring that EBS could deliver a live broadcast of such a prestigious continental fixture underscores a leadership philosophy driven by ambition, creativity, technological advancement and an unrelenting determination to put Edo on the map of excellence.
We equally commends the Edo State Government for its vision, foresight and sagacity in entrusting the leadership of EBS to a consummate journalist and administrator of Dr. Alenkhe’s calibre.
The decision is already yielding visible dividends, as the station continues to demonstrate that with the right leadership, strategic direction and institutional support, a state-owned broadcast organisation can compete favourably and command attention beyond its immediate environment.
The SWAN Edo Chapter congratulates the entire EBS family on this landmark achievement and urges the Management and staff to sustain the momentum of innovation, professionalism and excellence.
We are confident that under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Festus Alenkhe, EBS will continue to break new grounds, deepen its relevance and remain a formidable voice in sports broadcasting and public service journalism.
This achievement is not merely a broadcast success; it is a proud statement that Edo can, Edo will, and Edo is already leading.
Once again, congratulations to Dr Festus Alenkhe and EBS family.
Signed:
Comrade Idahosa Moses,
Secretary,
