The recent assault by suspected armed militants on eight communities in Ovia South West of the State including Madoiti, Agolobi, Taye, Dipe among others resulted in numerous casualties, and missing persons, with reports suggesting that at least 22 people have lost their lives and all forms of destruction as a result of the attack.
The assault alleged to be carried out by suspected militants from Ijaw Community has now rendered these communities once known for their expertise in farming, cash crops, severe economic losses, with already harvested crops and property worth millions of naira destroyed.
Executive Secretary of the Edo State Emergency Management Agency EdoSEMA, Jerry Idahosa, and Head of Operations, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Ojuedorie Kenoma
stated that plans are underway to provide relief materials and intervention, urging displaced persons to remain calm and law-abiding. They also emphasized the need for thorough investigation to identify those responsible.
Displaced victims also appealed to the federal and state governments to establish military base and police stations in the region.
Efforts are being intensified by the state government to track down those responsible for the attacks and prevent future occurrences.
