South-South Will Soon Be Fully APC-Controlled – Gov Otu Predicts

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has projected a full political sweep of the South-South region by the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the party is on track to take over the three remaining states still governed by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Addressing the press in Calabar following recent political developments, Governor Otu said the APC’s growing influence in the region is a significant milestone that signals a shift in political alignment.

“For a long time, Cross River was the lone APC stronghold in the South-South. Today, with Delta and Edo joining the fold, the vision of a unified progressive region is fast becoming reality,” he said.

Governor Otu’s remarks came on the heels of the formal defection of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the APC—a move that was endorsed during a high-profile event attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and Governor Otu himself.

Currently, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Rivers States remain under PDP control. However, Rivers is temporarily under a sole administrator, following the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara—a situation that may further reshape the region’s political dynamics.

Otu, who also serves as Vice Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum, expressed optimism that once all six states fall under APC leadership, the region will benefit from more unified governance, faster economic growth, and greater political coordination.

He urged new members of the party, including Governor Oborevwori and his supporters, to contribute their political experience and grassroots support toward the APC’s broader development agenda.

“With all six states working in synergy under the APC, we are poised to unlock the South-South’s full potential and advance the national vision for a renewed Nigeria,” Otu stated.
