Ogun State, Nigeria – Nigerian street-hop musician Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been convicted on charges of assault and obstruction following an incident involving a police inspector.
The controversial artist was arrested in March 2023 after physically attacking Inspector Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi and obstructing law enforcement officers who were attempting to serve him an arrest warrant.
During the court proceedings, Police Prosecutor, Inspector Olumide Awoleke, informed the Ifo Magistrates’ Court that the offenses were committed on November 18, 2022, at approximately 11:00 a.m. in Okeosa, Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District of Ogun State.
According to the charge sheet, Portable and others at large were accused of conspiring to commit felony by assaulting a police officer — an act deemed punishable under Section 517 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006. The musician was also found guilty of unlawfully beating Inspector Oluwafemi, which falls under Section 351 of the same code.
In a separate charge, Portable was accused of stealing musical equipment throughout 2022, including a Yamaha H55 studio monitor, a Studio 2 interface connection cable, and an AKG P420 condenser microphone. The charge was brought under Sections 383, 384, and 390 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State.
Delivering the judgment, Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo found Portable guilty of Counts 1 and 2. The court sentenced him to one month in prison or a fine of ₦10,000 for Count 1, and two months in prison or a ₦20,000 fine for Count 2.
The judgment marks another chapter in the controversial career of the singer, who has often made headlines for his erratic behavior and brushes with law enforcement.
