Gov Okpebholo Celebrates Edo Workers on May Day, Commits to Welfare and Development

Benin City, May 1, 2025 – Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has commended the resilience and dedication of workers across the state as part of the 2025 Workers’ Day celebrations, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving their welfare and working conditions.

 

In a goodwill message released by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo lauded the contributions of workers to the social and economic development of the state, describing them as the “pillars of our society” whose hard work continues to shape Edo’s future.

 

“The workforce remains central to our progress,” the Governor said. “From civil servants and healthcare workers to teachers, artisans, and entrepreneurs, your efforts are the engine of our economy and the heart of our communities.”

 

The Governor highlighted key areas his administration has prioritized to support the workforce, including:

 

Improved working conditions to ensure productivity and employee well-being.

 

Prompt payment of salaries and pensions as part of a commitment to financial responsibility and fairness.

 

Training and capacity-building programs aimed at equipping workers with relevant skills for today’s evolving economy.

 

Promotion of industrial harmony through constructive engagement with labor unions and employers.

 

 

Governor Okpebholo also praised the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for their continued advocacy for workers’ rights and social justice, emphasizing that the state government remains open to collaboration in addressing workers’ concerns.

 

“As we mark this year’s May Day, I encourage all workers in Edo State to stay committed to service and continue playing their vital role in building a stronger and more prosperous state,” the Governor added.

 

The message concluded with heartfelt appreciation to Edo workers for their sacrifice and dedication, wishing them a happy and fulfilling Workers’ Day celebration.
