NNPCL Board Restructuring Will Boost Oil and Gas Sector Efficiency — Rep Iyawe

Abuja – Member of the House of Representatives, Esosa Iyawe, representing Oredo Federal Constituency in Edo State, has praised President Bola Tinubu for the recent reconstitution of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) board, describing it as a timely and strategic move to enhance the country’s energy sector.

Speaking to The Guardian on Sunday, Iyawe, an engineer-turned-lawmaker, said the decision reflects the President’s commitment to eliminating inefficiencies and ensuring transparency within Nigeria’s most critical industry.

“I commend President Tinubu for his timely and strategic decision to restructure the leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). This bold move reflects a deep commitment to reform, transparency, and long-term sustainability in Nigeria’s energy sector,” Iyawe stated.

He emphasized that the restructuring will not only restore investor confidence but also accelerate efforts to diversify Nigeria’s gas market, thereby strengthening the sector’s role in driving economic growth and ensuring national energy security.

“The reshuffling is a clear step towards enhancing operational efficiency, restoring investor confidence, and driving the diversification of our gas market. These are essential pillars for economic growth and energy security.”

Iyawe highlighted the government’s ambitious production targets, noting that the new board is strategically positioned to deliver results.

“With the President’s targets of increasing national oil production by 200,000 barrels per day by 2027 and 500,000 barrels per day by 2030, the newly reconstituted leadership is well-positioned to drive meaningful change and significantly improve NNPCL’s contribution to national development.”

The lawmaker concluded that the board restructuring aligns with broader reforms aimed at unlocking the full potential of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
