Abuja — The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the second phase of its Contactless Biometric Passport Application System, expanding the service to its diplomatic missions in the United States, Mexico, Jamaica, and Brazil.
The announcement was made by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle and signed by the Service’s Spokesperson, ACI AS Akinlabi.
According to the statement, the rollout is part of a phased implementation under the leadership of the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap.
“The Nigeria Immigration Service, under its Comptroller General, Kemi Nanna Nandap, wishes to inform the general public, especially Nigerians in the Diaspora, that it is implementing the next stage of the roll-out across the following countries,” the statement read.
The contactless passport system allows Nigerians abroad to renew their passports without visiting a passport center for biometric data enrollment. The application is currently available for download on the Google Play Store under the name “NIS Mobile”, with an iOS (Apple Store) version expected soon.
An enhanced version of the app is also in development to improve user experience and accessibility for both Android and iOS users.
The NIS further stated that the Contactless Passport App is now active in Canada, the U.S., Mexico, Jamaica, Brazil, Europe, and Asia. However, it has not yet been rolled out in Nigeria and Australia, with a launch date for these regions to be announced at a later time.
“The Service remains committed to innovative and efficient service delivery to Nigerians anywhere in the world,” the statement concluded.
