National Assembly Suspends Plenary to Honour Late President Buhari

Abuja, Nigeria – July 14, 2025

The National Assembly has suspended all legislative activities following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London, United Kingdom.

In an official statement issued by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, Esq., the leadership of the Senate and the House of Representatives announced that plenary sessions have been rescheduled to resume on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

According to the statement, the suspension is in honour of the late President’s legacy and distinguished service to the nation. Lawmakers have been urged to adjust their schedules to allow for full participation in the burial activities of the former Nigerian leader.

“The National Assembly mourns the passing of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, former President and Commander-in-Chief, and expresses deep condolences to the government and people of Nigeria, the people of Katsina State, and the Buhari family,” the statement read.

The leadership of both chambers described the late President as a man of integrity and unwavering commitment to the unity of Nigeria.

“May Almighty Allah grant his soul eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus,” the statement concluded.
