National Assembly Consulted Before President Tinubu’s Decision – House Spokesman

Abuja, March 18, 2025 – The House of Representatives has confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, duly consulted the National Assembly before making his recent decision.

In a statement issued today, House Spokesman Rep. Akin Rotimi, Jr. clarified that the leadership of the National Assembly met with President Tinubu and National Security Adviser, along with key security chiefs, ahead of the President’s broadcast. During the meeting, all present were fully briefed on the President’s intentions and unanimously expressed their support.

Additionally, President Tinubu has formally communicated his decision to the House of Representatives, seeking approval in line with Section 305 of the Constitution. His letter has been transmitted and is scheduled to be read during plenary on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. The House is expected to deliberate on the matter and take further legislative action accordingly.

The statement comes in response to multiple inquiries regarding the consultation process behind the President’s decision.
