Abuja — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday arrived at the National Assembly to formally present the 2026 Appropriation Bill to a joint session of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
The President entered the chamber of the House of Representatives at about 3:00 p.m., accompanied by top government officials, where he is expected to outline the federal government’s spending priorities, revenue projections, and key policy directions for the 2026 fiscal year.
The presentation is expected to focus on critical sectors including security, infrastructure development, education, healthcare, job creation, and economic stabilisation, as the administration continues efforts to strengthen growth, curb inflation, and improve living standards.
Also in attendance are the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, principal officers of the National Assembly, members of the Federal Executive Council, service chiefs, heads of government agencies, and other top government functionaries.
The 2026 budget is anticipated to reflect the administration’s reform agenda, with emphasis on fiscal discipline, revenue expansion, and improved service delivery. Lawmakers are expected to subject the estimates to detailed scrutiny through committee hearings before harmonisation and passage into law.
The formal presentation marks the beginning of the legislative budget process, after which the President will engage with the National Assembly to ensure timely consideration and approval of the appropriation bill for the coming fiscal year.
