Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo has assured that his Administration would continue to accord recognition and respect to traditional institution, to enable it play its role in maintaining peace, security and orderliness in the society.
The Governor was speaking at the 2025 Annual celebration of Ihuen festival at the Onojie of Ekpoma palace, Ekpoma.
Governor Okpebholo who was represented by the member representing Esan west Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon Jonathan Ibhamawu, advocated for more roles for traditional rulers in the constitution as they are the custodian of the rich cultural heritage of their various ethnic groups.

The Governor commended residents of Ekpoma for the overwhelming support accorded him which culminated into the landslide victory during the Governorship elections.
The state Governor acknowledged the Economic hub which Ekpoma represents and a centre of Academic development, with the establishment of Ambrose Alli University, which informed his Administration’s resolve to inject more funds into the smooth running of the university.
Edo State Deputy Governor, RT Hon Dennis Idahosa, represented by the Deputy chief of staff to Edo State Government, Hon Pius Alile described the celebration of Ihuen festival as a rally point for sons and daughters of Ekpoma to foster unity, and cohesion needed to stimulate the Economic growth of the University town.
The Onogie of Ekpoma, His Royal Majesty, Anthony Abumere 11 whose address was delivered by professor Omon Ogiuogo, former Acting vice chancellor, AAU, pledged the unflinching support of the people of Ekpoma to the present Administration.
This according to the Onojie was the surest way to reciprocate the Administration’s giant strides in Ekpoma, with the increase of subvention to AAU, construction of feeder roads and schools to engender meaningful development.
The celebration of Ihuen festival is dated back to 1456AD when the founder of Ekpoma Ancestral home Uda instituted the festival to usher in peace, prosperity in the land.
