A former member of the Edo State House of Assembly and two-time member of the Edo State Executive Council, Dr. Christopher Adesotu, has passed away. He died on June 14, 2025, at the age of 65.
The announcement was made by the families of Omoregie, Igbinevbu, Adesotu, Omomo, and Oroghodo of Iguogun Community in Ovia South-West Local Government Area, Ogbe Quarters in Oredo Local Government Area, and Evbuoyi in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area — all in Edo State.
In a statement released in Benin City, Mr. Leonard Adesotu, the eldest son of the late politician, described his father as a seasoned administrator, respected teacher, political leader, community elder, and dedicated farmer.
Born on August 12, 1960, in Iguogun village, Dr. Christopher Adesotu began his education at BDC Primary School, Iguogun, and later attended Iguobazuwa Grammar School. He obtained his TC II and NCE qualifications before earning a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Education. He also held a Postgraduate Certificate and a Ph.D. from the University of Benin.
Dr. Adesotu’s political career spanned several decades. He served as a two-time Chairman of Ovia South-West Local Government Area and represented Ovia South-West Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly from 2007 to 2011. He was a one-time Deputy Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Chairman of the Edo State Technical Education Board, and Commissioner for Science and Technology.
Until his passing, Dr. Adesotu was a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State.
The family has said funeral arrangements for the elder statesman will be announced in due course.
