Edo Youths, Civil Society Leaders, and Security Chiefs Meet to Tackle Insecurity

In a renewed effort to address the rising spate of insecurity in Edo State, key stakeholders—including youths, civil society leaders, security chiefs, and representatives of the Edo State Government—converged in a dialogue aimed at charting a sustainable pathway for peace and security.

During the deliberation, leaders of civil society organizations raised concerns about police brutality and extortion, while also advocating for increased youth engagement and participation in governance.

Top security officials present included the Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika; Commander, 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ebenezer Oduyebo; and the Edo State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mitchell Ofoyeju, among others. They all pledged their support to the state government’s ongoing efforts to combat cultism, kidnapping, and other criminal activities.

Addressing participants, Governor Monday Okpebholo called on youths to work collaboratively with the government to build a safer and more prosperous Edo State.

The outcomes of the dialogue are expected to reinforce the state government’s continued crackdown on criminal elements and strengthen its resolve to ensure law and order.
