Benin City, May 27, 2025 — Edo State has recorded its first pilgrim fatality in the ongoing 2025 Hajj exercise in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
The deceased, Mrs. Dazumi Adizatu, a 75-year-old pilgrim from Jattu Uzairue in Etsako West Local Government Area, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2025, following a brief illness. She died at King Fahad General Hospital in Makkah, where she had been admitted the previous day.
Chairman of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mallam Musah Muhammad Uduimoh, confirmed the incident in a voice note shared via WhatsApp on Tuesday morning.
According to Mallam Uduimoh, Mrs. Adizatu fell ill shortly after performing Tawaaf (circumambulation of the Kaaba) on Sunday, May 25, and was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. Sadly, she passed away the following day.
In line with Islamic rites, she was buried in Makkah on the evening of her death. The Pilgrims Welfare Board has since informed her family in Jattu Uzairue of the development.
Mallam Uduimoh expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the repose of her soul.
