Benin City, May 27, 2025 — As Nigeria marks Children’s Day, Edo State Governor, His Excellency Monday Okpebholo, has called on parents and guardians to actively dissuade their children from joining cult groups and engaging in social vices.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Governor Okpebholo extended warm greetings to children across Edo State and the country, describing them as “the true leaders of tomorrow” and reaffirming his administration’s commitment to their education, safety, and overall development.

“Our children are our most precious assets,” the Governor said. “Their dreams are the blueprints for a brighter future for Edo State. As an administration, we are fully dedicated to investing in their development, protecting their rights, and nurturing their talents.”

Highlighting the state government’s ongoing efforts, Governor Okpebholo outlined key initiatives aimed at improving the lives of children in the state:

  • Investment in Education: He reiterated his administration’s resolve to transform public schools through infrastructure upgrades and learning reforms. This includes the declaration of a state of emergency in the education sector and the ongoing renovation of schools across Edo State.

  • Child Protection: The Governor emphasized the importance of shielding children from abuse, exploitation, and harmful practices, citing the enforcement of child protection laws and initiatives to ensure universal access to education.

  • Youth Empowerment: To address issues like cultism and youth violence, Governor Okpebholo noted that his government is committed to creating meaningful opportunities for young people to thrive through skill development and community engagement programs.

He called on parents, guardians, teachers, and stakeholders to continue playing their roles in guiding children, instilling strong values, and supporting their dreams.

“We believe that every child deserves a fair chance at success, irrespective of their background,” the Governor said. “We will continue to provide them with the tools and support needed to excel and contribute meaningfully to society.”

Governor Okpebholo concluded by encouraging children to embrace education, dream big, and strive for excellence, assuring them of his administration’s unwavering support.
