Court Dispels Rumour of Final Judgment Date
The Edo State Election Petition Tribunal has again debunked rumors of a final judgment date.
Secretary to the tribunal, Barr. Mua’zu Bagudu, in a telephone conversation with EBS this Sunday, clarified that the rumored judgment date of Wednesday is unconfirmed.
The tribunal is hearing a petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, alleging widespread irregularities in the September 21, 2024, governorship election in Edo State.
The petitioners claim the election was marred by over-voting, improper use of election materials, and non-compliance with electoral guidelines.
In response, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has pushed for the dismissal of the PDP’s petition, arguing that the petitioners failed to present credible evidence.
The APC’s lead counsel, Emmanuel Ukala, emphasized that the petitioners’ case lacks a solid evidentiary foundation.
The PDP’s legal team, led by Ken Mozia, has dismissed the APC’s claims and urged the court to grant their petition.
After several disruptions, the tribunal relocated from Benin City to the National Judicial Institute in Abuja, where it continued proceedings on January 28.
EBS recalls that Justice Wilfred Kpochi had on March 3, reserved judgment for a later date, after parties to the suit adopted their final written addresses.
