Governor Okpebholo charges APC campaign council on grassroots mobilisation
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo has charged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council to take the party’s message to every ward and polling unit across the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Wednesday during the inauguration of the Edo APC Campaign Council for the 2027 General elections, which he chairs, the governor urged members to work together as a team, engage directly with the people at the grassroots and ensure that the party’s campaign reached every community in the state.
He also urged them to promote peaceful campaigns and avoid actions or statements capable of causing division within the party or the state.
According to the governor, the campaign should not be restricted to party leaders and political office holders, but should involve youths, women, traditional institutions, traders and other relevant stakeholders.
He urged the council members to explain the programmes and achievements of the APC-led administration to the people and listen to their concerns.
The governor said effective grassroots mobilisation remained critical to the party’s success in the forthcoming elections.
Speaking at the same event, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Co-chairnan of the campaign council and Senator representing Edo North, commended Governor Okpebholo for what he described as his grassroots approach to governance.
He said the governor’s ongoing visits to local government areas demonstrated the importance of taking leadership directly to the people.
He then urged members of the campaign council to reach out beyond existing APC members and engage other residents who might be willing to support the party.
“Those who are not members of the party are Nigerians and Edo people. They are our members. Our task is to motivate them and bring them into our fold,” Senator Oshiomhole said.
Also speaking, Mr Jarrett Tenebe, Edo State APC Chairman, and Co-chairnan of the campaign council said the council has experienced party members carefully selected to deliver the party’s candidates in the various elections.
Tenebe urged members of the council to work collectively and ensure that campaign activities reached the wards and units across the state.
He said the party would provide the necessary support to enable the council to effectively carry out its responsibilities.
Director-General of the Campaign Council and former Senator representing Edo South,Sen. Matthew Urhoghide, said the campaign must be taken to the “nooks and crannies” of Edo.
He urged members to engage residents who were not members of the APC and explain the reasons why they should support the party.
He said the election would be fought at the polling-unit level, stressing the need for every member of the campaign council to pay attention to the grassroots.
Dr Pius Odubu, a former Deputy Governor of Edo, also urged council members to see their appointments as a call to duty.
Odubu said party members should work beyond their immediate supporters and engage people across the state in the campaign.
The APC recently constituted its 2026/2027 campaign structure, with Okpebholo as Chairman of the Campaign Council, Oshiomhole and Tenebe as Co-Chairmen and Urhoghide as Director-General.
Present at the inauguration ceremony were the Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Dannis Idahosa, Speaker Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA) Mr Yekini Idiaye, Former Deputy governor of Edo State Lucky Imaseun, Sen. Neda Imaseun Representing Edo South Senatorial Districts, Joe Ikpea, Edo Central APC chieftain Gen. Cecil Esekaigbe, Edo APC Deputy State Chairman, Mr Sylvester Aigboboh, and Edo APC Secretary, Lawrence Okah.
