Edo FA Chairman Charges Edo Queens to Win WAFU B Trophy

The Chairman of the Edo State Football Association, Fred Newton Erhunmwunse, has charged the state-owned female team, Edo Queens of Benin City, to leave no stone unturned as they embark on their quest for continental glory, urging them to bring home the coveted WAFU B trophy.
Speaking to the media at the weekend, the Chairman emphasized that the entire state and members of the Edo FA Board are standing firmly behind the team. He praised the players for their discipline, resilience, and outstanding performances that secured them the final ticket of the regional CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers in Burkina Faso.
“You are not just representing yourselves; you are carrying the hopes, dreams, and pride of our entire state and Nigeria,” Fred Newton Erhunmwunse stated. “You have conquered the domestic scene, and now the ultimate prize in African women’s football is within your reach. Go out there, play with passion, and bring the trophy home.”
The Edo FA boss noted that the rise of the team has been a source of inspiration for young girls across the state. He assured the delegation of the Association’s continued support.
“It is our prayers for you to go past your opponent from Ghana in today’s final of the WAFU B tournament and pick the ticket for the CAF Women’s Champions League. You have done it before, you can do it again,” he added.
Erhunmwunse also thanked the Edo State Government led by the performing Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for its massive support which saw the team lift the domestic title this year. He further praised the efforts of the Executive Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Desmond Amadin Enabulele, and the Chairman of Bendel Insurance FC, Emperor Jarreth Tenebe, for their contributions to the team.
Nigeria champions Edo Queens will on Saturday evening at the August 4 Stadium in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, take on Ghana champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the final match of the WAFU B Tournament,
The winner will qualify for the 6th Edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League taking place in South Africa later this year.
