Keyamo Orders Probe into Air Peace, Oshiomhole Airport Dispute

Lagos, Nigeria — The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has ordered a thorough investigation into the recent altercation between Air Peace and Senator Adams Oshiomhole at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.

Keyamo, in a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, directed relevant aviation agencies to gather all necessary evidence relating to the incident and submit their findings to his office.

The dispute began when Air Peace accused Senator Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North Senatorial District, of disrupting its operations after reportedly missing a scheduled flight. Videos circulated online showed the senator addressing an airline official and later sitting at the entrance of Zulu Hall at the airport’s Terminal 1.

Oshiomhole, however, denied causing any disruption, alleging that the airline attempted to extort passengers by demanding additional payments from those who had already checked in online. He claimed the airline’s actions reflected arbitrary policy changes and a lack of transparency.

In response, Air Peace dismissed the allegations as “deliberate falsehood,” stating that no passenger was asked to pay any fees after check-in had closed.

Addressing the matter, Keyamo said he had been in direct contact with both parties since the day of the incident. He appealed for calm and urged both sides to refrain from further public accusations.

“In the wake of the incident at the Lagos Airport last Wednesday involving Air Peace Airline and His Excellency, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, I have been in direct contact with both parties since that morning,” the minister stated.

“Whilst appealing to both sides to halt the public accusations and counter-accusations, I am further directing the relevant aviation agencies to thoroughly look into the issue, collect all available evidence and revert to my office so we can deal with the issue in such a way as to guide future conduct in similar situations.”

Keyamo also stressed the importance of due process, urging aviation authorities not to rush to conclusions but to ensure all sides are heard before any action is taken.
