Akpabio Denies Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Sexual Harassment Claim
The Senate President Godswill Akpabio has emphatically denied allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Plenary kicked off with Senate President Godswill Akpabio denying sexual harassment allegations made against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Akpoti-Uduaghan had last week accused Akpabio of alleged sexual harassment which took place at his home and in his office.
Akpabio in his denial emphasized that he has the utmost respect for women and would never assault them.
From her newly assigned seat, Senator Natasha
Akpoti-Uduaghan, presented a petition against Senate President, Godwill Akpabio on sexual harassment, abuse of office and malicious obstruction of her legislative functions.
Some senators called for the rejection of the petition.
While Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele argued that petitions authored by
lawmakers and signed by them cannot be accepted by the senate, the Senate Chief Whip, Mohammed Monguno stated that the matter of sexual harassment was before the court.
Reacting, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan clarified the matter that was before the court.
She explained that what is before the court is the defamation suit and not the sexual harassment allegations petition.
Meanwhile, outside the premises of the National Assemly, tension erupted between pro-Natasha and pro-Akpabio protesters.
While some called on Akpoti-Uduaghan to apologise to Akpabio for wrong accusations, others hailed her as a heroine for being a voice for the voiceless.
