President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the South-East Development Commission (SEDC), Mark Okoye, on the occasion of his 40th birthday, commending his contributions to public service and national development.
In a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised Okoye’s dedication, resilience and commitment to service, describing him as one of the young leaders helping to shape Nigeria’s future.
Tinubu noted that Okoye’s journey in public service has been marked by professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility, attributes he said have distinguished him throughout his career.
Before his appointment as the pioneer Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the South-East Development Commission, Okoye served in several strategic positions in Anambra State, including as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, Special Adviser to the Governor, and later Commissioner for Economic Planning, Budget and Development Partners.
The President particularly acknowledged what he described as Okoye’s unblemished record during his 14 years in public service, noting that the milestone birthday offered an opportunity to celebrate a career built on dedication and impactful leadership.
President Tinubu also encouraged the SEDC chief not to relent in his efforts to steer the Commission towards achieving its mandate of driving development and reconstruction initiatives across the South-East region.
According to the President, the responsibilities entrusted to the South-East Development Commission are critical to the region’s growth and integration into the nation’s broader development agenda.
He expressed confidence in Okoye’s capacity to provide the leadership required to advance the Commission’s objectives and deliver meaningful results for the people of the South-East.
Describing himself as a youth-focused leader, Tinubu said the presence of innovative young professionals in positions of responsibility within his administration offers hope for the country’s future.
The President observed that leaders such as Okoye represent a generation of Nigerians whose ideas, energy and commitment can contribute significantly to national transformation and sustainable development.
“As a youth-centric leader, the President states that, with Okoye and many other innovative young people in his administration, the nation’s future remains promising,” the statement said.
