Port Harcourt, April 22, 2025 — The South-South Zonal Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved the party’s executive committees in Bayelsa and Edo States, citing gross misconduct and poor leadership performance. In their place, Caretaker Committees have been appointed to manage party affairs in both states for an initial period of three months.
The resolution was announced following a zonal meeting held on Tuesday and chaired by Chief Dan Orbih, PDP National Vice Chairman (South-South).
According to a statement signed by the Zonal Publicity Secretary, Prince Etim Isong, the decision was based on a review of the conduct and performance of the dissolved executives, which the committee said violated multiple provisions of the PDP Constitution. The statement also highlighted internal crises within the state chapters and, in the case of Edo, the party’s dismal performance in the most recent governorship election.
“The Zonal Working Committee hopes this bold move will strengthen the foundation of the PDP and ensure effective leadership in both Bayelsa and Edo States,” the statement read.
