INEC Issues New Guidelines On Election Results Review, Party Applications Now 122

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued supplementary regulations and guidelines on the review of election results, following the need to clarify misinterpretation of Section 65 of the Electoral Act 2022.

A statement by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information & Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, said the Commission has also provided an update on the ongoing processing of applications from associations seeking registration as political parties.

According to INEC, the new guidelines, uploaded to its website and other platforms, outline clear procedures and timelines for reviewing election results.

It emphasized that the move aims to ensure transparency and fairness in the electoral process.

The election management body also disclosed that as of July 2, 2025, it has received a total of 122 applications for registration as political parties, with 12 new applications received since June 23, 2025.

INEC said the list of new applications, including the names of associations, acronyms, addresses, and interim chairmen and secretaries, is available on its website.

Nigeria’s electoral umpire however, appealed to associations to maintain consistency in their proposed leadership and addresses to avoid delays in the consideration of their applications.

The Commission assured Nigerians that it will process these applications transparently and in fairness to all applicants, in line with the Electoral Act and Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties 2022.
