House of Representatives Dissolves All Ad Hoc Committees
The House of Representatives has dissolved all its Ad Hoc Committees with effect from Friday, August 28, 2026, directing affected committees to immediately cease all activities and submit outstanding reports and working documents to the Office of the Clerk for safekeeping.
The directive was issued by the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Sidi Ibrahim, on the instruction of the Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen.
The directive affects all Chairmen and members of Ad Hoc Committees of the House.
According to the directive, the dissolution followed earlier calls for the committees to conclude their assignments and submit their reports in line with the Standing Orders and established practices of the House.
The House said only two Ad Hoc Committees had sought and obtained extensions of time under Order Eighteen, Rule 5 of the Standing Orders.
However, the two-week extension granted to the committees had since elapsed without the assignments being concluded.
The directive explained that Ad Hoc Committees are temporary committees established to undertake specific and time-bound assignments and are not expected to continue indefinitely beyond the purpose and period for which they were constituted.
The dissolution marks the end of the mandates of all Ad Hoc Committees that had exceeded their approved timelines.
