The Jigawa State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the tragic death of a young bride, allegedly at the hands of her husband and his three friends, just days after their wedding ceremony.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the incident occurred on the night of April 26, 2025, in Tungo village, Albasu District, Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area.
The police disclosed that the 20-year-old groom, Auwal Abdulwahab, allegedly conspired with his friends—Nura Basiru, Muttaka Lawan, and Hamisu Musa, all aged 20—to forcefully engage the bride in non-consensual sexual activity at their matrimonial home.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the bride had reportedly refused marital relations with her husband since their wedding. On the night of the incident, she raised an alarm during the assault but tragically died shortly afterward.
Upon receiving the distress call, a team led by the Divisional Police Officer of Sule Tankarkar Division swiftly moved to the scene. The victim’s body was taken to Gumel General Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed her death. Her remains were later released to her family for burial.
“All four suspects have been arrested and are currently in police custody,” SP Adam confirmed. He added that they are likely to face charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide under Jigawa State laws.
The Commissioner of Police, CP A.T. Abdullahi, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Dutse for a thorough and discreet investigation.
The police have assured the public that justice will be pursued diligently and urged residents to remain calm as the legal process unfolds.
