The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, has announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. This significant move comes after months of speculation and weeks of preparations that saw several members of his cabinet defect to the APC.
EBS News reports that, Governor Mbah made the official announcement at a press conference, citing the need to align with the APC’s vision for development and progress.
He expressed his commitment to advancing the interests of Enugu State and its people, stating that joining the APC would provide greater opportunities for collaboration, investment, and sustainable growth. Mbah also thanked the PDP for their support during his campaign, but emphasized that leadership demands difficult decisions in service of higher principles and goals.
This defection marks a major shift in Enugu’s political landscape, ending the PDP’s 25-year grip on the state.
