The Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 47 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud during coordinated sting operations across Kwara State.
The arrests, which took place on Thursday, followed actionable intelligence linking the suspects to various forms of cybercrime, the commission said.
According to a statement issued in Ilorin by the EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the suspects were apprehended at several key locations, including Awolowo Road, Tanke, and Harmony Estate in Ilorin, as well as in Ganmo and Amoyo, both in the Ifelodun Local Government Area.
“Upon arrest, operatives recovered a number of items believed to be proceeds of cybercrime, including 10 luxury vehicles, 74 assorted mobile phones, 18 laptops, and a motorcycle,” the statement noted.
The commission confirmed that the suspects will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
