EDO STREET BEGGING

The leadership of the Hausa community in Edo State has called on the State Government, for assistance, to evacuate street beggars from the state.
They described the growing menace of Street begging, particularly that of children, as a dishonourable act to the Arewa region.

Nafeesah Bello tells us.

The number of beggars, especially children, aside people with disabilities, who engage in the act of begging to make a living is soaring by the day on the streets of Benin city.

This situation, according to Chairman, Hausa Community in Edo state, Alhaji Badamasi Saleh, is becoming worrisome and a disrepute to the people of the northern extraction in Edo State.

Badamasi Saleh also said, the Arewa Community had series of meetings on the issue with the previous government but it never saw the light of day.

Reacting to what has been described as an embarrassing issue, based on the position of Islam on begging, a Muslim Cleric, Dr. Mustapha Isiaka, explains.

It is the belief of the Hausa Community in Edo state that the State Government will give them the needed support to get rid of the street beggars and repatriate them to their respective home states in the northern parts of the country.
