The Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the reconstitution of the Governing Council of Edo University, Iyamho. This was disclosed in a special government announcement issued today by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq.
The newly appointed members of the Governing Council are:
Prof. Olusegun O. Akinyinka, mni – Chairman
Prof. Solomon Owumi – Member
Most Rev. Bishop Donatus Ogun – Member
Prof. (Mrs.) Lilian Salami – Member
Prof. Paul Idornigie, SAN – Member
Dr. (Mrs.) Umemetu Momoh – Member
Prof. Francis Egbokhare – Member
Profiles of the New Council Members
Prof. Olusegun O. Akinyinka, the newly appointed Chairman, is a distinguished medical professional with an MBBS from the University of Ibadan and a Ph.D in Pharmacology from the University of Southampton, UK. With a career spanning leadership roles including Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, and Pioneer Provost at Edo University, he brings vast experience in medical education and institutional management.
Prof. Solomon Owumi is a seasoned biochemist, specializing in biochemical toxicology and molecular genetics. A Senior Lecturer at the University of Ibadan, his research focuses on chemical carcinogenesis and molecular toxicology.
Most Rev. Bishop Donatus Ogun, currently the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Uromi, combines his religious and pastoral leadership with a strong commitment to community development.
Prof. (Mrs.) Lilian Salami, a renowned academic and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, is a specialist in Home Economics and Nutritional Education. With degrees from North Dakota State University, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and University of Benin, she brings extensive academic and administrative expertise.
Prof. Paul Idornigie, SAN, a Professor of Commercial Law at Veritas University, Abuja, is a respected legal scholar with a specialization in International Commercial Arbitration.
Dr. (Mrs.) Umemetu Momoh, an Associate Professor at the University of Benin, is an experienced educationist with qualifications in Educational Management and Administration from Ahmadu Bello University and the University of Benin.
Prof. Francis Egbokhare, a renowned linguist and Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters, has held several key academic positions at the University of Ibadan and currently serves as President of both the Nigerian Academy of Letters and the Open Distance and E-learning Association of Nigeria.
The announcement further stated that the inauguration of the Governing Council will take place on a date to be announced by the Governor.
