Edo State Forestry Commission Seizes Trucks Loaded with Logs, Issues Stern Warning Against Illegal Activities

Benin City, Edo State – In a decisive move to protect the state’s forest reserves, the Edo State Forestry Commission has seized several trucks laden with illegally harvested logs and wood in the Udo Community, located in the Ovia South-West Local Government Area.

The Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Valentine Owamagbe Asuen, who personally inspected the seized vehicles, issued a stern warning to stakeholders within the forestry sector, local communities bordering the forest reserves, and the general public. He urged them to desist from encroaching on or unlawfully felling trees within the state’s protected forest areas.

Speaking on the incident, Hon. Asuen stressed the importance of adhering to the state government’s policies aimed at restoring and preserving the forest reserves. He made it clear that any breach of the forestry laws would result in strict penalties.

“We are committed to preserving Edo’s natural heritage. The unlawful logging of our forests is a serious environmental threat, and we will continue to act firmly against those who engage in illegal activities,” he said.

Hon. Asuen also highlighted the firm support of Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo in the fight to protect the state’s forest resources. He emphasized that the government will not tolerate actions that threaten the delicate ecosystem of the state’s forests.

The Commission’s actions are part of ongoing efforts to enforce the state’s forestry laws and safeguard its natural resources. It reiterated its commitment to continued surveillance of the forest reserves, warning that further violations would be met with appropriate legal action.

The Edo State Forestry Commission has vowed to strengthen its monitoring of forest activities across the state, aiming to preserve and protect the environment for future generations.
