The Edo State Government has announced a strategic partnership with the Nigeria Police Force aimed at tackling cultism and drug abuse among youths in the state.
Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties to the Edo State Governor, Mr. Alex Aarebamen, made the disclosure in Abuja on Saturday after a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters, where he met with the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Frank Mba.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Monday Okpebholo, Aarebamen said the visit was to formally present Project RISE—Resist Initiation, Secure Education—to the police authorities and to seek institutional support for the initiative.
Describing the engagement as “fruitful and encouraging,” Aarebamen said DIG Mba expressed strong support for the project and commended it as a proactive measure to steer young people away from crime and anti-social behaviour.
“DIG Mba gave his full support and blessings to Project RISE. He described it as a laudable initiative and noted that anything geared towards saving our youth from the grip of cultism is highly welcomed,” Aarebamen stated.
He added that the police chief also praised Governor Okpebholo for his administration’s developmental strides and commitment to youth empowerment.
According to Aarebamen, Project RISE is designed to provide educational alternatives, mentorship, and advocacy support for at-risk youths, particularly in communities vulnerable to criminal influence.
“It forms a critical part of the Edo State Government’s broader strategy to create a safer and more productive environment for young people. With strong partnerships like this, we can build a future where our youth are empowered, educated, and free from the grip of crime and violence,” he said.
