BUDIA Raises Alarm Over Rising Insecurity in Kwara, Urges Swift Government Action

The Batombu Unity and Development Initiative, Abuja (BUDIA), has expressed deep concern over the growing wave of terrorism and insecurity ravaging Baruten and Kaiama Local Government Areas of Kwara State.

In a statement signed by its President, Barrister Nasir Abubakar Othman, BUDIA described the situation as a “grave threat” to lives and property, citing recent violent attacks that have left many dead, displaced thousands, and crippled farming and economic activities in the region.

Communities near the Kainji Lake National Park, including Chikanda, Yashikira, Kuburufu, and Gure, have been particularly hard hit, with an overwhelming influx of internally displaced persons (IDPs), mostly women, children, and the elderly. The nonprofit organization stressed that the deteriorating security situation demands urgent and decisive intervention from both government and security agencies.

While commending the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, and senior military officials for their visit to Kaiama for an on-the-ground assessment, BUDIA urged the government to extend similar visits and interventions to Baruten Local Government Area, where communities remain under severe threat.

BUDIA further called on residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to report suspicious activities or unfamiliar movements promptly to security agencies and traditional rulers in their areas.

“BUDIA stands in solidarity with all sons and daughters of Baruten and Kaiama as we urgently appeal for decisive military intervention to end the violence and restore peace and stability in our communities,” the statement read.

The organization reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the safety, welfare, and development of the Batombu people and stressed that only a comprehensive strategy can bring lasting peace to the affected areas.
