APC EDO STATE CHAPTER MOURNS THE PASSING OF DIG PARRY OSAYANDE (Rtd.)

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Edo State Chapter, has received with deep shock and sorrow the news of the passing of Deputy Inspector General of Police (Rtd.), Parry Benjamin Osemwegie Osayande, who answered the eternal call on Sunday, September 28, 2025, in Benin City, Edo State, just a few hours to his 89th birthday.

DIG Osayande’s life and career remain an indelible testament to courage, discipline, and patriotic service to the Nigerian nation. Rising to the enviable rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police, he served with uncommon commitment across various states, including Bendel, Cross River, and Benue, where he distinguished himself as a fearless crime fighter and an administrator of repute. His pivotal role in the capture of the notorious Lawrence Anini in the 1980s marked him as one of Nigeria’s most celebrated crime-busters.

Beyond his operational excellence, the late DIG Osayande was an internationalist who represented Nigeria at the global stage, leading the United Nations Police contingent to Namibia during the UNTAG mission, and at home, he continued to shape the nation’s security architecture. As Chairman of the Police Service Commission between 2008 and 2013, he pursued reforms with vigor and integrity, leaving behind enduring legacies that strengthened the institution of policing in Nigeria.

His death is not just a loss to his immediate family, the good people of Edo State, and the Nigeria Police Force, but to the entire nation that benefitted immensely from his sterling leadership, wisdom, and dedication.

On behalf of the leadership, stakeholders, and entire membership of the All Progressives Congress, Edo State Chapter, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Osayande family, the Nigeria Police Force, and indeed, all who mourn this towering patriot. May the Almighty grant his soul eternal rest and give his loved ones the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

Adieu to a Statesman, reformer, and true Son of Edo.

Signed
Barrister Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie
State Publicity Secretary,
All Progressives Congress (APC), Edo State Chapter.
