Abia at 35: Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu Praises Peace, Security, and State Progress

 

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has congratulated the government and citizens of Abia State on the occasion of its 35th anniversary.

 

Created on August 27, 1991, from the old Imo State under the administration of General Ibrahim Babangida, Kalu said Abia’s journey reflects a story of resilience and ongoing growth.

 

In a press statement, the lawmaker who represents the Bende Federal Constituency praised the people of Abia for sustaining peace, strengthening security, and upholding trust in democratic governance. He noted that the state’s stable environment remains a crucial driver for economic development, investment, and long-term stability.

 

Kalu acknowledged the contributions of both past and present leaders, highlighting the collective efforts of successive military and civilian administrations in advancing the state’s trajectory. He specifically commended the current administration under Governor Alex Otti for prioritizing public safety and governance, pointing to key achievements such as the establishment of an Air Force base in Umuahia.

 

The Deputy Speaker also lauded the state government’s commitment to bipartisan cooperation, citing the approval of Certificates of Occupancy for several strategic federal initiatives. These include the National Industrial Court, the Renewed Hope Housing Projects, and new federal educational institutions brought to the state through legislative efforts.

 

Kalu further emphasized that strong alignment between federal and state governments will continue to attract investment, improve infrastructure, and generate employment for residents.

 

Additionally, the deputy speaker welcomed ongoing efforts to settle outstanding pensions and gratuities, calling the welfare of retired public servants an essential responsibility of governance.He urged all Abians to maintain the momentum of unity, peace, and service as they celebrate this milestone.
