IJUNE 12: Idahosa Seeks Renewed Commitment to Democratic Ideals

Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, has called on Nigerians to recommit themselves to the ideals of democracy, freedom, justice, and national unity as the country commemorates the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.

In a message marking the occasion, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Friday Aghedo, Idahosa paid tribute to the heroes and heroines who sacrificed for Nigeria’s democratic journey. He noted that honouring their legacy requires a renewed dedication to strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring that citizens continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

The Deputy Governor described democracy as the most effective system of government for promoting inclusiveness, accountability, the rule of law, and active citizen participation in governance. He urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in supporting democratic principles and processes for the nation’s continued growth and stability.

Idahosa commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiatives aimed at deepening democratic governance, strengthening national unity, driving economic growth, and advancing institutional reforms across the country. He expressed optimism that these efforts would further consolidate Nigeria’s democratic gains.

He also lauded Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for providing purposeful leadership and implementing people-centred policies and development programmes across the state. Reassuring residents of the administration’s commitment to transparency, good governance, and sustainable development, Idahosa pledged continued efforts to improve the welfare and prosperity of the people of Edo State.
