APC Targets Abia Sweep In 2027 As Kalu Receives Governorship Nomination Forms
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is poised to secure a sweeping victory in Abia State during the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence that the party will clinch the governorship alongside all legislative seats.
Kalu made the assertion on in Abuja while receiving Expression of Interest and Governorship Nomination Forms presented to him by APC stakeholders from Abia, who urged him to contest the state’s top office.
The Deputy Speaker assured party loyalists that the APC would not only win the governorship but also dominate the Senate, House of Representatives, and State Assembly elections in the state.
“We will not allow this dream to die. We will fight till the end. We will win the House of Assembly positions, win the House of Representatives, sweep the Senate seats, and win the governorship,” Kalu said.
He emphasized that beyond state ambitions, his foremost priority remains securing strong electoral support in the South East for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“The most important thing for me is to ensure that our people stand solidly behind the President. Every other thing is secondary,” he added.
The presentation of the nomination forms followed appeals from key APC stakeholders across Abia’s three senatorial districts, who praised Kalu’s leadership and legislative performance, describing him as the ideal candidate to reposition the state.
Speaking on behalf of Abia North, James Igwe commended Kalu’s record of service and urged him to replicate his achievements at the state level, noting that his leadership style reflects unity and development.
Similarly, retired Major General Jack Nwaogbu, representing Abia Central, credited Kalu with revitalizing the APC in the state, citing renewed grassroots engagement and party cohesion.
From Abia South, former lawmaker Uzo Azubuike highlighted the need for strong leadership to improve the party’s electoral fortunes, particularly in delivering significant votes for President Tinubu, following what he described as underwhelming support from the region in 2023.
Stakeholders unanimously appealed to Kalu to heed their call and lead the party into the 2027 governorship race, expressing confidence that his candidacy would galvanize support and secure victory for the APC across Abia State.
