Sowore Defies Court Order, Leads Mass Action in Abuja
The convener of the #Revolutionnow movement, Omoyele Sowore is leading a protest in Abuja tagged: #freeNnamdiKanuNow.
The march is being monitored by the police who have barricaded the area to prevent further movement by Sowore and his group.
Earlier the security agencies had attempted to disperse the demonstrators using tear gas.
The ongoing protest action has resulted in significant traffic disruptions at major entry points into the Federal Capital City.
However, the planned protest is in defiance of an interim injunction issued by Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
The court order restrained Sowore and other organisers from protesting in or around sensitive government areas, including the Presidential Villa, National Assembly Complex, Force Headquarters, Court of Appeal, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday morning, Sowore called on citizens to take to the streets in peaceful protest.
Sowore announced that protesters should converge in front of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, at 7 am, urging them to “come ready, come peaceful, come determined.
