Edo Tipper Drivers Elect New Executives in Peaceful Poll

Benin City, May 24, 2025 — The Edo State Tipper Drivers Association of Nigeria on Saturday conducted a peaceful election to usher in new executive members for its St. Saviour branch.

The exercise, which held at the union’s headquarters, was described by many as one of the most peaceful in the history of the association. Alex Okpame emerged as the new chairman, securing 134 votes to defeat four other contenders. Festus Ambrose was also elected as the vice chairman.

Members of the association arrived as early as 9 a.m. to participate in the long-awaited election, which had previously experienced setbacks. The election featured an open ballot system, with members conducting themselves in an orderly and transparent manner.

Before the commencement of the poll, the state chairman of the association, Comrade Osaro Aigbekaen, addressed members, urging them to maintain peace and ensure a credible process.

Speaking after the election, Comrade Aigbekaen and other stakeholders commended members for their maturity and cooperation, stating that the smooth conduct of the poll marked a new chapter for the branch.

The newly elected executives are expected to serve a single term of five years to steer the affairs of the St. Saviour branch of the Edo State Tipper Drivers Association of Nigeria.
