ABUJA – May 13, 2025
The Nigeria Police Force has debunked viral social media claims alleging that a police helicopter was used to deliver food items to armed bandits in Kogi State.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police described the narrative as false, misleading, and deliberately aimed at discrediting a legitimate security operation.
The viral video, which shows a police helicopter landing and taking off in an area where armed men are visible, sparked outrage online. However, the police clarified that the footage captures an authorized tactical mission conducted on Saturday, May 10, 2025, in the Obajana axis of Kogi State.

According to the statement, the operation involved joint security forces, including the police, local vigilantes, and hunters, and was part of an ongoing effort to combat banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in the region.
“The police helicopter was deployed to provide aerial support and surveillance to ground troops actively engaging threats in the area,” the statement read.
The Force urged the public to disregard what it described as “unfounded and mischievous claims” and to rely solely on verified information from official police channels.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Nigeria Police pledged continued collaboration with relevant security stakeholders to ensure the protection of lives and property across the country.
