Edo PDP Blasts Former Chairman Tony Aziegbemi, Accuses Him of Ruining Party

Benin City, May 9 – The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strongly worded statement condemning former factional chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, for what it described as “irrelevant antics” and attempts to undermine ongoing efforts to rebuild the party.

In the statement signed by Bob-Manuel Umoru, Publicity Secretary of the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, the party accused Aziegbemi of presiding over what it called one of the “most destructive eras” in its history. According to the statement, his tenure was marked by internal chaos, mass defections, and a sharp decline in public confidence.

The party also faulted Aziegbemi for allegedly attempting to blame the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, for the party’s current challenges. “The Speaker, like many others, has come to terms with the damage caused by the reckless mismanagement of the party by Tony Aziegbemi and his enabler, former Governor Godwin Obaseki,” the statement read.

The PDP described the previous leadership under Aziegbemi and Obaseki as divisive and vindictive, accusing them of undermining party unity and democratic principles. “What was once a united and result-oriented political movement was torn apart by greed, arrogance, and a blatant disregard for democratic values,” the statement added.

Umoru noted that the current leadership is focused on rebuilding the party by reconnecting with aggrieved members, reviving its structures, and restoring public trust.

“We therefore advise Mr. Aziegbemi to show restraint and allow the current leadership to focus on the enormous task of rebuilding the PDP in Edo State. The time for self-serving political games is over,” the statement concluded.

The party emphasized that its new direction would be rooted in accountability, inclusiveness, and progressive leadership, while expressing hope for a renewed PDP in the state.
