Gov Okpebholo Begins Remedial Works on Sapele-Benin Road to Ease Gridlock

…Old Sapele Road, Evbukhu, Ogheghe among areas undergoing rehabilitation

Benin City – In a move aimed at decongesting traffic in Benin City and improving road infrastructure, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has flagged off major remedial works on the old Sapele Road and other adjoining routes within the state capital.

The intervention follows years of public outcry over persistent traffic gridlock along the Sapele Road axis and is expected to provide alternative routes for motorists, thereby easing vehicular movement in and out of the metropolis.

While inspecting the ongoing works, Governor Okpebholo visited key sites including Evbukhu, Ogheghe, Old Sapele Road, Catholic Charismatic Way off Upper Ekenwan Road, and Ugbiyoko, expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of the work so far.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accountable governance, noting that all revenue accruing to the state will be used judiciously to improve public infrastructure and service delivery.

“Whatever we are doing as an administration in Edo State, we are doing for the benefit of the people,” the Governor said. “The President has increased federal allocations, and with that money, we are focused on developing Edo State and improving lives.”

Governor Okpebholo expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for enhancing states’ revenue through increased federal allocations. He stressed that the funds received through the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) are being deployed to projects that have a direct impact on residents’ daily lives.

He also took a swipe at his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki, questioning the use of federal funds during his tenure.

“Former governor Obaseki received federal allocations as well. He should be asked what he did with them. Our administration is working, and the people can see our projects across the state.”

The Governor added that the rehabilitation of Old Sapele Road will help divert traffic from the main road, reducing pressure on the city’s core infrastructure and offering road users improved access to alternate routes.

He concluded by calling for unity among residents, urging all stakeholders to support the development of the state.

“Edo belongs to all of us. It is our responsibility to unite and develop the state. We cannot wait for others to do it for us. We must work together.”
