Benin City, April 24, 2025 – The Edo State Government has announced the cancellation of the scheduled Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise slated for Saturday, April 26, 2025.
In an official statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, the cancellation is attributed to the ongoing 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which began on Thursday, April 24, 2025, nationwide. The state government cited the need to ensure unhindered movement for candidates participating in the exam as a major reason for the decision.
This announcement follows earlier notices released on March 15 and April 22, 2025, regarding the reintroduction of the sanitation exercise across the state.
Despite the cancellation, residents are urged to maintain cleanliness in their immediate surroundings as a civic responsibility. The state government reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a safe, healthy, and clean environment for all Edo citizens.
According to the release, the sanitation exercise will now commence officially on the last Saturday of May 2025, and will hold between 7:00 am and 10:00 am.
The government assures the public of its continuous efforts to support public health and environmental sustainability across the state.
