Cairo, Egypt – Nigeria’s U20 national team, the Flying Eagles, have arrived in Cairo ahead of a high-profile international friendly match against Egypt’s U20 team, the Young Pharaohs, scheduled for this evening.
The match is part of both teams’ preparations for the upcoming Africa U20 Cup of Nations, set to take place from April 27 to May 18.
The Nigerian delegation, comprising 24 players and nine officials, landed at Cairo International Airport on Sunday evening via Egypt Air. The team, led by Head Coach Aliyu Zubairu, is currently camped at the Jewel Sports City and Aqua Resort.
The Flying Eagles held their first training session on Monday evening to acclimatize and fine-tune tactics ahead of today’s fixture.
Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM local time (4:00 PM Nigeria time) at the Cairo International Stadium.
Seven-time African champions, the Flying Eagles will begin their AFCON campaign against Tunisia on Thursday, May 1, at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo.
The Africa U20 Cup of Nations also serves as a qualification tournament for the FIFA U20 World Cup, which is slated for September 27 to October 19 in Chile. The top four teams from the tournament will earn spots at the global championship.
